“Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Welcome to Words for the Heart, a site dedicate to sharing resources for teaching some of the Bible’s most well-love stories. As a start, I will use the “60 Essential Bible Stories” listed in the Lutheran Handbook – a light-hearted, but useful resource. I will also consult with the posts, “Confirmation: 100 Things Your Child Needs to Know” at Bread, Not Stones. Over time, I hope to add other stories, and I hope to never skirt an issue. If a story doesn’t seem to have many resources, I hope to create them.
I am growing in my knowledge of using and building internet-things, but I am still very much a novice, so here’s how to navigate the site right now. The main “home” page is a blog, the posts will appear as I add them, likely in an order related to the stories I anticipate being taught to the Sunday School children at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Ohio. You can use the index to find a specific story.
Finally, please make use of the comments on each story’s page to add resources, questions, and comments you have. Let’s make this a community resource!
